Penn FTD Center Spotlight - Cross-Disciplinary Training in Translational Neuroimaging of ADRD T32 Training Grant

The Penn FTD Center is congratulating Astrid P. Ramos-Rolon and Mohammed Saqib as trainees of the Cross-Disciplinary Training in Translational Neuroimaging of ADRD T32 training grant. These graduate students will receive specialized training led by Drs. Corey McMillan and John Detre spanning coursework, journal clubs, conferences, and grant applications, all focused on interdisciplinary ADRD neuroimaging. Astrid and Mohammed will begin their appointments on the training grant in August.

Astrid is a third-year PhD candidate in the Neuroscience Graduate Group at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research journey began at the University of Puerto Rico, where she completed her bachelor’s degree. Her involvement in mental health advocacy there sparked a deep interest in neuroscience. At Penn, Astrid joined Dr. Corinde Wiers' lab and transitioned to clinical neuroimaging research. Her research focuses on studying the effects of cigarette smoking on Alzheimer's disease pathology. The goal of her project is to investigate the statistical mediation of two key brain markers—β-amyloid and resting-state functional connectivity—in the effect of smoking on cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease risk.

Mohammed Saqib is a PhD student in the Bioengineering department. He previously completed a BS in Computer Science/Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech. He completed post baccalaureate research at NIH and is currently focusing on layer MRI biomarkers for determining FTD biomarkers.

Congratulations, Astrid P. Ramos-Rolon and Mohammed Saqib!
